IGT Spreads Holiday Cheer in Rhode Island

Dec 15, 2017

Providence, RI – Dec. 15, 2017 - This year, IGT employees participated with several charities to help spread holiday cheer in Rhode Island as part of IGT’s Holiday Giving Campaign. Beginning in November, employees throughout the state collected food for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, donated toys to the Marines’ Toys for Tots Foundation, and purchased gifts for Children’s Friend’s Adopt-A-Family program.

During the week of Thanksgiving, Food Bank and Toys for Tots collection boxes were distributed throughout all IGT offices in Providence, West Greenwich, and Cranston, and employees began signing up for Children’s Friend’s Adopt-A-Family program.

IGT also hosted its 23rd annual “Breakfast with Santa” on Dec. 2 where proceeds from the event were donated to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. IGT Global Solutions Chairman Don Sweitzer and his wife, Sheri, dressed up as Santa and Mrs. Claus, and monetary donations or canned goods were collected in exchange for a picture with the couple. In total, IGT collected and delivered 462 pounds of food to the Food Bank and raised $565 from the Breakfast with Santa event.

Along with Food Bank boxes, Toys for Tots boxes were filled at various IGT locations throughout a three-week period. Eight boxes of new, unwrapped gifts were delivered to the Toys for Tots warehouse in Providence where employees were met by program coordinator Sgt. Jedidiah Hall on Dec. 14. The Marines’ Toys for Tots Foundation has distributed more than 18 million toys to over seven million less fortunate children across the U.S. this past year.

IGT employees also “adopted” 29 families, including 72 children, through the Children’s Friend’s “The Spirit of Giving” holiday drive. Children’s Friend is a non-profit organization that has provided child welfare, family support, mental health, and child development services to those in need throughout Rhode Island since 1834. IGT employees donated toys and clothing to help spread holiday cheer to some of these families in need. The gifts were collected and delivered on Dec. 12 so parents had time to wrap them before Christmas.

Commenting on IGT’s Holiday Giving Campaign, IGT Vice President of Corporate Communications, Angela Wiczek, said, “I’m always truly amazed and inspired to see IGT employees come out in full force to lend a helping hand for our neighbors in need, especially during the holiday season.”
